Robert James Henry Large, Jim Large (senior) and Isabell Ellen Large began making wooden clothes pegs in 1942. The first weekend of trade saw a turnover of 24 gross, but it didn’t take long for the turnover to increase to 150 gross.

The first order for a bedroom suite was placed in July 1946 and this was when Large's Furniture came to life. The workload increased and Jim took on more staff.

In January 1952, Jim and Isabell's 15 year old son Jim (junior) joined them in the business. His apprenticeship began in 1953 and finalised in 1958.

With Isabell and Jim (junior) at the helm, the business overcame the loss of Jim (senior) in 1969 and it continued to grow, along with their reputation for good quality furniture and reliable service.

In November 1970, the first of its third generation joined the staff when Jim's son John started at the factory. John began his apprenticeship in 1971 and completed it in 1975. To date the family members who have worked at Large's Furniture span 4 generations, all of whom are proud to be of service to this successful family run business.
